MAY 2026
BECOMING KINGDOM: BUILT FOR COMMUNITY & KINGDOM

This season, God has been teaching us the importance of Kingdom connections and community. We’re reminded that we were never meant to do life alone—strong, authentic relationships in the Body of Christ are essential to fulfilling the work He’s given us. When we live with a Kingdom mindset—others-focused and secure in knowing there is more than enough, so there’s no need for competition—we begin to see that our identity becomes a gift to those around us. In that space, real community forms, and the fruit of those relationships carries into eternity.
THE LATEST

One of the most powerful moments this past month came through GoBU Unplugged. It reminded us why we create spaces outside the four walls of the church—because there are people we are called to build with who may not be in our immediate congregation.

Through jazz, worship, and communal expression, we’ve seen God move in ways we couldn’t plan. As we’ve remained obedient to create space for both structure and spontaneity, the Holy Spirit has met people deeply—touching hearts we didn’t even know needed it.

One attendee shared that she and her husband keep coming back because there aren’t many spaces for Christian adults to enjoy themselves without compromising their values—and that Unplugged has become a meaningful date night for them.

Moments like these remind us: community and creativity are essential to discipleship.
HAPPENING NEXT

GoBU Unplugged — This Month

This month’s theme centers on triumph in the midst of challenge—celebrating victory even when we can’t yet see it.

The empire defines victory through visibility—status, influence, comfort, and outward success. But the Kingdom reveals victory through surrender, obedience, and faithfulness. The cross didn’t look like victory—it looked like loss—but through it, death was defeated (1 Corinthians 1:18, Colossians 2:14–15). What the world may call failure, God often calls fulfillment.

It’s the kind of faith that:
  • marches around walls that haven’t fallen yet (Joshua 6)
  • rejoices while still asking “how?” and “when?” (Habakkuk 3:17–18)
  • trusts that the veil is already torn because “it is finished” (John 19:30, Matthew 27:51)

May is a month of both celebration and remembrance, and we’re inviting you into a night of communal worship, interactive expression, and meaningful connection—where we learn to see victory the Kingdom way.

Come ready to celebrate, reflect, and build new relationships in the Kingdom.
Kingdom Partnerships — RCC Houston

We’re honored to continue partnering with Restoration Community Church (RCC Houston), who has faithfully walked with GoBU for the past 7 years. Led by Pastors David and Melissa Hill, RCC is doing transformative work in the OST/South Union community—raising up not just leaders, but entire families committed to restoration.

What began in 2019 as us simply providing DJing and video coverage for RCC’s MLK Day celebration has grown into a meaningful, Kingdom-centered partnership. Over the years, that initial opportunity to serve has developed into a trusted relationship marked by shared vision, mutual support, and a deep commitment to impacting the community together. Today, this partnership includes providing space for our studio and mobile stage—giving GoBU a place to create, build, and operate—while we continue to serve alongside RCC through creative support, events, and outreach. It’s a powerful example of what happens when ministries come together with a Kingdom mindset, each offering what they have to advance something greater than themselves.

Juneteenth + Father’s Day Classic

We’re excited to support RCC’s upcoming Juneteenth Father’s Day Classic—a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for dads and sons, followed by fellowship, food, and a live concert powered by the GoBU mobile stage.

It’s more than an event—it’s community, legacy, and Kingdom culture in action.

If you don’t already have plans for Juneteenth, we invite you to come out and join us—be a part of and witness the impactful work happening in the OST/South Union community.

THAT'S A WORD

As we think about community and divine relationships, we have to ask: How are we intentionally building one another in the faith?

Take time to reflect and pray:

  • How are the people around you growing in intimacy with God?
  • Where might they be struggling to fully submit to His rule and reign?
  • What relationship in your life needs reconciliation or restoration?

God uses community to shape us. We need people to pray with us, celebrate with us, and walk with us through both joy and hardship.

As we look toward Christ’s return, may we be known by our fruit—love, generosity, and genuine connection.
