BECOMING KINGDOM: IDENTITY & WHOLENESS

As we move into spring, we’re reminded that everything we do should flow from the finished work of Christ—His death and resurrection—securing true freedom, new life, restored identity, and citizenship in His eternal Kingdom. It’s exciting to see this same celebration echoed across Christian Hip Hop, with artists releasing new music that boldly testifies to what God has done in their lives. Lately, we’ve been reflecting on how empire thinking disconnects us from our true selves, while Kingdom thinking restores us to who God created us to be. Scripture reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), calling us to steward them with intention. As we continue becoming Kingdom, we’re learning that caring for our whole selves is part of how we Go Be who God has called us to be.

THE LATEST

That revelation came to life through our first Pilates & Worship experience. What many expected to be just a workout became a deeply restorative moment—where people reconnected with God not only spiritually, but physically and mentally. Participants shared that they felt refreshed, relaxed, and more aware of God’s presence in their bodies, leaving with a renewed understanding that our bodies are not separate from our faith, but a vital part of how we live it out. It was a powerful reminder that wholeness matters—and that honoring God includes how we care for the very vessel He dwells in.

This weekend’s Pilates & Worship experience was incredible—we completely sold out of spots and, by God’s grace, created a powerful atmosphere of peace, presence, and connection. From start to finish, it was clear that He met us in a unique and holistic way, and the response has been overwhelming. So often, we cling to coping mechanisms that become lifestyles—producing a false sense of comfort, peace, and success—but Scripture reminds us that everything not built by God will be tested by fire (1 Corinthians 3:13–15). Even good works done outside of His will won’t remain, which calls us to live from obedience, not just good intention. True identity is formed in Christ, confirmed in community, and given as a gift to the world.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’"

Prayer:  Lord, search us and purify our hearts (Psalm 139:23–24). Strip away fear, falsehood, and selfish ambition, and teach us to surrender the ways we’ve protected ourselves. Lead us into truth, healing from past wounds, and the fullness of who You’ve called us to be—so we may walk in righteousness, integrity, and freedom. We desire to Go Be who God has called us to be, truly!

Becoming Kingdom: 9 Years Strong & Building What’s Next

A SEASON OF REFLECTION

As we step into Black History Month, we pause to reflect on resilience, faith, and the legacy of those who paved the way before us. Scripture reminds us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). With warmer days slowly returning, we’re grateful for signs of new life while continuing to pray for families across the country recovering from last month’s freeze. Even in shifting seasons, God remains faithful—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

THE LATEST

Becoming Kingdom has been a blessing to many. One supporter shared that the content was “seasoned with truth” and a powerful way to learn about the history of the ministry and the founder’s background—while beautifully capturing the culture of Houston’s Greater Third Ward. The vlog continues to disciple through story, sound, and Kingdom perspective, reminding us that “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). The call is not to build empires—but to seek first the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33).

We also celebrated 9 years of God’s grace and faithfulness over GoBU—nine years of obedience, refining, and expanding vision. As Psalm 90:17 says, “Establish the work of our hands.” We have seen Him do exactly that.

While The Kikbak: Birthday Edition with Jon Keith and the official launch of GoBU Unplugged were postponed due to freezing conditions (which impacted travel in parts of the country, including Tennessee), we’re grateful for wisdom, safety, and the opportunity to reschedule well.

MLK Day with RCC Houston was beautiful. Believers from across the city gathered in crisp, cool weather to serve our community, break bread together, and honor a longtime community member who exemplifies the qualities of Dr. King. In partnership with RCC, GoBU helped set the tone by DJing, covering the event, and producing a recap video. Be sure to watch the video and mark your calendar for next year—it’s a meaningful way to celebrate and a powerful opportunity to build new relationships while strengthening old ones.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Our first Pilates & Worship experience exceeded expectations. Participants said they felt like they were leaving a spa session—deeply relaxed and spiritually refreshed. For many, it was their first time engaging in Pilates, and they weren’t sure what to expect from the worship element—but it became a powerful opportunity to reconnect body, soul, and spirit with the Maker of Heaven and Earth.

THAT'S A WORD

I walked into a restaurant recently to meet a potential partner. It was a nice place. The hostess looked at me and said, “Please come in and seat yourself.”

And it hit me.

Sixty years ago, that wasn’t possible.

Progress didn’t just happen. It came through prayer, sacrifice, endurance—and lives lost. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).

Our spiritual freedom is no different. It was not casual—it was costly. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). Any ounce of freedom—natural or spiritual—is worth celebrating, stewarding, and protecting.

As we honor Black history and celebrate nine years of ministry, may we never take freedom lightly. Let’s steward it faithfully. Let’s build intentionally. And let’s keep becoming Kingdom.

HAPPY 2026

As the seasons have shifted these past few months—from lingering summer warmth into the rhythms of fall and the expectancy of the holiday season—we’ve felt the Lord inviting us to slow down, reflect, and give thanks. It’s been a meaningful stretch for GoBU, marked by growth, refinement, and fresh vision. In every moment, God has been faithful, and we’re excited to share what He’s been doing among us.

Over the past four months, GoBU has been in a season of intentional building. Our team has been gelling, relationships have deepened, and our culture is becoming more defined. We’ve seen increased engagement across our gatherings and content, and we’re sensing a renewed hunger for authentic, faith-centered community.
